About the Children's Advocate

The Children's Advocate is a bilingual, bimonthly newsmagazine. Since 1973, the publication has covered issues affecting children and families in California. Over 50,000 children's service providers, advocates, community leaders, policy-makers, and parents read the Children's Advocate.

A typical 32-page issue includes articles in English and Spanish on grassroots activism, trends and policy issues affecting children and families, and tips for parents and early care and education providers.

Tips for using the Children's Advocate

  • Outreach: Give the Children's Advocate to families as a resource.

Reprint Children's Advocate articles in your print or email newsletter. Credit the article as being "from the July-August 2005 issue" (or whichever issue it is) "of the Children's Advocate, published by Action Alliance for Children"—and be sure to send us a copy.

  • Program and staff development: Pass out the Children's Advocate at staff meetings as a basis for discussing program ideas or issues in the field.
  • Community education: Use the Children's Advocate as part of parent and provider education, ESL, and support group curriculum. Discuss selected articles.
  • Community engagement: Distribute the Children's Advocate to community advisory councils, leadership teams, and other community forums.
  • Advocacy: Use Children's Advocate articles and the Roundtable pages to educate policy makers or legislative action teams.
