1A Our Stories: How to Develop a Family Engagement Strategy
Through our stories, we identify our shared interests, build relationships,
and discover our leadership potential. In relational games and small group
sharing, parents and staff will experience strategies that can build community
and motivate parents to get involved and stay involved.

1B Organizing Parent Leaders in the Community: A Core Team Approach
This session introduces the "core team approach" and the story
of how it moved Santa Cruz County parents from leadership in organizations
to leading community efforts for social justice. Parent leaders and organizers
will learn how to identify core teams in their communities and practice
facilitating house meetings.

1C Sharing Power: Institutional Support for Parent Leadership
What does it take build effective parent leadership and sustain it over
the long haul? Is your organization truly sharing power with parents?
This dialogue will engage executive directors, funders, staff, and parent
leaders in an exploration of what it takes to foster and sustain authentic
parent leadership. This session is especially recommended for executive
directors.

1D Bridging Barriers: Organizing Parents Across Cultures
How can we come together when we speak different languages? How can organizations
support parents to bridge cultural divides? Organizers and outreach staff
will be introduced to key strategies for successful cross-cultural organizing.

1E Creating a Winning Parent Advocacy Team
This session will introduce ways parents can use their stories to achieve
legislative victories. Participants will experience the challenges and
fun of organizing a call-to-action meeting and preparing for a legislative
visit.

2A "Together, We Can:" Creating a Parent Action Group
Parent Advocates for Youth (PAY) leaders will share "the basics"
of forming a parent action group - from identifying common goals to developing
a campaign. Parents and organizers will practice ways to create supportive
group dynamics, address challenges and needs of the group, and develop
a campaign.

for Children and Youth)
2B Developing Parent Leaders for Systemic School Reform
Fed up with overcrowded, poorly performing schools, Oakland parents led
a successful effort to create small, autonomous schools within the district.
Through inter-action and role-play, parents and organizers will be in-troduced
to the Pacific Institute for Community Organ-ization (PICO) model and
basic organizing activities such as one-to-one meetings, research, and
actions.

2C Fatherhood is Powerful: Strategies for Male Involvement
This session will present the National Compadres Network approach for
involving fathers and other men in children's lives. Participants will
reflect on their own experiences and attitudes and develop male involvement
strategies that fit their programs.

2D Parents and Youth: Creating Alliances
This session presents a unique opportunity for parents to engage in a
conversation with youth leaders about working together toward common goals.
Through facilitated dialogue and small group activities, parent and youth
leaders will explore opportunities, challenges, and tools for building
parent-youth alliances.

2E From Involvement to Leadership to Social Change
From outreach and relationship-building to keeping parents involved,
this session will provide staff and parents with an overview of successful
strategies for helping parents move along the leadership continuum. Participants
will have an opportunity to share their stories and questions.
