Jobs and Internships
Journalism Internship
Position open until filled
The Internship: AAC trains journalists interested in covering
public policy issues that affect children and families. Editorial interns
research and write news articles for the Children's
Advocate. Interested interns also learn about the entire process
of producing a bimonthly newsmagazine -- from story development through
post-production work.
Intern requirements: Eight hours per week during regular business
hours; commitment of two or more semesters preferred. Ability to analyze
complex policy issues and describe them in a clear, accessible style.
Comfortable conducting interviews by telephone. Graduate or upper-division
undergraduate status. Lower-division students with previous editorial
experience may apply as well. Major in communications, education, English,
political science, public health, or a related field. Previous writing
experience preferred.
Compensation: Interns receive $50 per month to cover transportation
costs.
To apply: Please send a cover letter, resume, and a 2-3 page writing
sample to Action Alliance for Children by mail, fax, or email. In your
cover letter, please indicate why you are interested in the internship,
when you would be available to start, and for how many semesters you would
like to intern. If you have had prior journalistic experience, send news
clips for your writing sample; otherwise, send part of an essay.
