Action Alliance for Children presents two videos that describe the impact of violence on children under age eight and highlight prevention strategies. The videos are for child development specialists, educators, public health and social service providers, community advocates, and policy makers.

Violence and Young Children: Successful Violence Prevention Strategies - 1 hour

Produced by the Young Children/Violence Prevention Coalition, a project of Action Alliance for Children. Features highlights from a 1997 roundtable discussion with national experts, plus interviews with young children about their experiences with violence. Violence and Young Children: Reducing the Risks - 17 minutes

Produced by Action Alliance for Children and the Contra Costa County Community Wellness and Prevention Program. Includes key points from a 1993 conference:

• Both domestic and community violence have developmental effects on young children.
• Experiencing or witnessing violence may overwhelm children or cut them off from their feelings, and may hinder their ability to learn.
• Most children exposed to violence do not become violent.
